What’s the best way to beat the mid-week blues? Good friends, good food and, of course, good booze.

After checking out the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met –AMAZING shoes, not-so-amazing overcrowding — on my most recent visit to New York, my friends and I decided to have a girls’ night out on the Upper East Side. Wednesday proved to be the perfect day, with local restaurants and bars offering some fabulous specials.

Community Supported Agriculture is a way for people to buy fresh produce directly from farms. CSA customers can buy a weekly share of fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers, who package items to either be picked up from numerous drop off points or deliver these packages straight to the customer’s door.

Last week, the sale of pet factory dogs and cats was officially banned in the city of West Hollywood. From now on, only the sale of animals from legitimate rescue organizations and municipal shelter systems will be allowed. The ban was a huge victory for animal rights groups, including Social Compassion in Legislation, the Humane Society of the United States, and the Companion Animal Protection Society, which aims to prevent the mistreatment of animals in pet stores and puppy mills.

Finding Cheap Eats in L.A.

January 29, 2010

In college, my friends and I decided to start our own dining club that ate at a new restaurant in Philadelphia every Thursday. What started out as a humble group of four girls expanded to a group that some weeks was as large as 15. I think it was through this dining group that my love affair with food began.
