Playing Tourist
I’m approaching two years of living in Los Angeles, and realized there were so many landmarks and attractions right at my fingertips that I never before explored. Having my parents in town this weekend was the perfect excuse to do some of the touristy things I hadn’t got around to doing.
1) Griffith Observatory
Perched high in the Hollywood Hills, the Griffith Observatory provides spectacular views of the city below. Stop by around dusk to catch the gorgeous sunset and watch as the city starts to become a sea of sparkling lights. Parking and admission to the observatory are both free!
2) La Brea Tar Pits
Maybe I’m a little bit of a dork, but I find it completely mindblowing that there are tar pits dating back tens of thousands of years less than a mile away from The Grove (aka the happiest place on earth). Totally worth checking out, especially if you’re a USC student, in which case admission is also free!
3) LACMA
Right next door to the La Brea Tar Pits is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, a massive complex of buildings housing everything from modern art to ancient art. As a lover of both Warhol and Monet, I can say there really is something for any art admirer here.
