Fitness gurus Jillian Michaels and Tone It Up’s Karena Dawn and Katrina Scott are joining forces for a three-part Tone and Shred workout series that combines each of their areas of expertise.

“We infused both of our different styles to create all new moves that are really fun, so you’ll see the influences of what Jillian’s known for and what we’re known for,” says Dawn. “It just became something really creative and fun.”

The three 20-minute workouts, which will be available on Michaels’ FitFusion streaming workout platform and ToneItUp.com in January, include a Shred section led by Michaels, which combines high-intensity interval training and ab work, a Bikini Booty workout led by Scott, and a Total Body workout led by Dawn.

“They are all high-intensity,” Michaels says, explaining how the short workouts are so effective. “We’re using free weights, we’re using body weight, we are using HIIT intervals. We’re touching upon different aspects of all modalities, whether it’s a yoga-inspired move, a mat Pilates-inspired move, a sports-specific type of move, to get people the best results and shed fat, tone the problem areas and give results, while having a good time.”

“All of the workouts combine everything that a woman’s body needs,” adds Scott. “We all need a little stretching, core balance, high intensity and lengthening.”

Each workout routine elevates the heart rate and engages multiple muscle groups to get optimal results.

“It’s go, go, go for 20 minutes,” says Michaels. “You don’t want to go with intensity for a really long time, but you up the ante if you’re doing 20 minutes. We’re never just standing there doing biceps — we’re combing multiple muscle groups so that we’re maximizing our time and burning more calories. These also maximize after burn — we’re elevating your metabolism long after the workout is over.”

Scott says short workouts like Tone and Shred are the perfect way to stay fit over the holidays.

“Set your alarm 30 minutes earlier than you normally would and put yourself first,” she says. “There are so many workouts you can do with a short amount of time. When the holidays come, if you make sure that you stay on track with your workouts and you take care of yourself first, then you can have grandma’s pie!”

Dawn recommends sending your family a healthy shopping list ahead of time if you’re going home for the winter festivities.

“I’m going home to Indiana for the holidays, so I’m sending over a shopping list for some of my favorite recipes that are healthy, so there’s also healthy options at the table,” she says.

And Michaels recommends using any extra downtime you have during the Christmas season to squeeze in a workout.

“I find that during the holidays I have more time to work out because people aren’t working,” she says. “Yeah there’s food, but you have more time to actually go train. Even if it is skiing, you’re outdoors, you’re doing some winter sport that you love, take advantage of your time off and work out. Earn your apple crisp or whatever it is that you’re excited about. If you have downtime, use it.”
